Well, we're not obsolete yet. The upshot of this 9th circuit case is that a computer can practice law, well, actually it can't, since it doesn't have a license. Got to keep that bar exam on paper.
"Khodorkovsky’s lawyer stated that prosecutors in the city of Chita indicted his client on charges of embezzlement and laundering as much as $25 billion in illegal oil revenues." -- I particularly like the defense's characterization of the charges, "not simply absurd, they are insane. Whoever wrote them was either mad or drunk." --
I know people think I'm a bit nuts when it comes to urban design, I know the Europeans are, but I think this Dutch idea has possibilities. The concept has been labeled Woonerven, but it basically boils down to getting rid of as many of the divisions between streets and the sidewalks. By mixing all the traffic up, drivers slow down and pedestrians have a safer environment. Not to mention we all get someplace that is a hell of a lot more pleasant.
Draw a box from University, over to Jefferson, and from the 9th Street to 16th and create a walkable human scale mixed use district that would probably be the single largest block of such territory in the state.
For a blog post explaining the idea far better than I can, follow the jump.
